Kids Have Spines Too!

Just your like yours, your child's spine protects billions of delicate nerve fibers that send messages between the brain to every part of the body. Any interference to these messages can result in faulty communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Interference to these messages is caused by stress on the spine (subluxations). When the brain cannot communicate properly with the body, it loses the ability to effectively organize the bodies various parts and function harmoniously.  This will lead to lowered resistance to disease, sickness and overall poor health.

Stress on the spine can lead to improper structural development, affecting your child's coordination and flexibility. Your child's spine can develop blockages (subluxations) as early as labor. In toddler-hood, learning to walk, run, jump, ride a bicycle and normal bumps and bruised can all contribute to subluxations.  In childhood and teenage years, subluxations can result from sports injures, repetitive stress (playing a one-sided instrument or sport), backpack stress and emotional stress.

We often appreciate the importance of regular check-ups such as physical exams, eye exams, hearing exams and dental check-ups, but draw a blank when it comes to the spine. A chiropractic check-up can be one of the most important check ups your child receives.

We understand that it is difficult to know if your child has subluxations.  Here is a short list of signals to help.

  • Head tilt
  • One shoulder higher than the other
  • One hip higher than the other
  •  Feet turned inward/outward
  • Winging/flaring of shoulder blades
  • One leg longer than the other
  • Complaints of neck/back/joint pain
  • Exaggerated mid-back or lower back curve(pot belly)
